Latifah Taormina, connected artist and organizer that she is, has tipped SICA-USA off to the activities of the U.S. Department of Arts & Culture, which is NOT affiliated with the federal government, but IS active in getting artists involved in the effort to create a Green New Deal. The Sunrise Movement says:
The Green New Deal is the only plan put forward to address the interwoven crises of climate catastrophe, economic inequality, and racism at the scale that science and justice demand.
The USDAC has a Statement of Values and says:
Culture is a human right. As expressed in the 1948 United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, “Everyone has the right to freely participate in the cultural life of the community.” It is our sacred duty to remove impediments to the exercise of this right and to ensure that the means to exercise this right are available to all. In a cultural democracy, we are obliged to monitor the impact of public and private actions with these duties in mind.
Culture is created by everyone. The art, customs, creative expressions, and social fabric of every community and heritage contribute to the vibrancy and dynamism of our common culture. Our cultural institutions and policies should reflect this, rather than privileging favorites.
Cultural pluralism is a social good and the wellspring of free expression. READ MORE.
SICA is NOT in a position to advocate for legislation but is in a HUGE position to advocate noble human-centric approaches to the issues of our time and help create awareness of the Latihan. What are some ways you can see SICA getting involved in such a cultural effort?
Yes!
Thank you for this!!
Paul, thank you for the many interesting and inspiring posts.
Thank you also for for your consistency in posting week after week; and finally thank you for the mentions.
Jim
Absolutely! Brings to mind all the discussions we’ve had over the years about how broad SICA is, even encompassing social activism and healing arts. Lezgo????
YES go 4 It!
Thank you so much for your effort, it is greatly appreciated and I would like to bring to your attention that The Green New Deal has a major flaw written into it. That is the roll out of 5G which according to the leading scientist’s from around the world who study wireless technology have written a declaration stating that the roll out of 5G will make climate change look like a cake walk.
I am happy to send to you the article that I am referring to that addresses this.
