SICA honors the work of all creative visionaries who make a difference in our world — whether or not they are in Subud.  Here are some amazing human beings, not in Subud, whose work —and passion — transforms our culture.

LILY YEH

At once visionary and eminently useful and practical, Lily Yeh celebrates the profound capacity of art to seed and support human transformation. — Matthew Fox, PhD, author, Creativity: Where the Divine and the Human Meet

Once described as the “Mother Theresa of community arts,” Lily calls herself a late bloomer who responded to ”her calling” in her 40s when she first heard a voice guiding her from within, and that changed everything.

Being an artist “is not just about making art. . . It is about delivering the vision one is given…and about doing the right thing without sparing oneself.”

ARLENE GOLDBARD

Arlene Goldbard is a writer, speaker, cultural activist, and consultant whose focus is the intersection of culture, politics, and spirituality. . .

“To have been granted the gifts of expression, communication, and imagination is a sacred trust—one that, like love, has meaning only when you share it.”

Arlene has addressed many academic and community audiences in the U.S. and Europe, on topics ranging from the ethics of community arts practice to the development of integral organizations. She has provided advice and counsel to hundreds of community-based organizations, independent media groups, and public and private funders and policymakers including the Rockefeller Foundation. She is currently writing a new book on art’s public purpose.  Visit her site for more information. . . and more inspiration!

SIR KEN ROBINSON

Creativity expert, Sir Ken Robinson, challenges the way we’re educating our children. He champions a radical re-think of our school systems in order to cultivate creativity and acknowledge multiple types of intelligence.

“Every day, in every way, our children spread their dreams beneath our feet. And we should tread
softly.”

A visionary cultural leader, Sir Ken led the British government’s 1998 advisory committee on creative and cultural education, a massive inquiry into the significance of creativity in the educational system and the economy, and was knighted in 2003 for his achievements.

His latest books are The Element: How Finding Your Passion Changes Everything, and Out of our Minds. His talks (see videos of TED talks right) have been viewed by millions.

STEVE JOBS

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life…Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”

A charismatic pioneer of the personal computer revolution, Jobs was co-founder, chairman, and chief executive officer of Apple Inc. He was also co-founder and previously served as chief executive of Pixar Animation Studios which was later acquired by Disney.* Jobs is credited with revolutionizing the computer, communications, music, and animation industries.      * Wikipedia

Creative Visions Foundation:   Where Music is the Smile of the Soul.

SICA gives a shout out to Creative Visions Foundation and their work to inspire and support creative activists who use the power of media and the arts to raise awareness of criticial issues and bring about positive change. Landfill Harmonic, the video above, is an example. While they’re not in Subud, they demonstrate key elements of Bapak’s vision for SICA, and we’re grateful for their example.
