  1. This is wonderful Sofia’s in that it does map out culture’s many avenues that we don’t always perceive as ‘culture’-thank you!

  2. This should probably include gardening and/ or organic farming.

    • Hi, Rachael. Perhaps listing gardening as “agriculture” in the “work force” category and as “landscaping” in the “design” category miss the spirit of what you have in mind here. I do have “gardening” mentioned in the “cooking/nutrition” category. Does including the activity in such a category also miss the spirit of what you are reaching for?

  3. what isn’t included in Sofia’s outline ?

i think more than anything this points to the difficulty that SICA’s had for nearly 40 years in defining itself & why it still seems so nebulous 🙂

  4. Thank you Sofiah. I’m going to add this map to other maps that I have collected to remind that there is a whole world out there that can participate in even while being isolated.

  5. Happy and satisfying where my mind can’t show the way. This map gives to me the feel of how broad and ordinary -for any given person it really is -as part of the day or week.

  6. Hi Sofiah– Thanks for this. Been meaning to comment for a while. I think you’re on to something here. I like how you’ve expanded the definition of “culture” beyond its narrower meaning of “arts” or maybe “arts and crafts.” When I was on the SICA USA committee (roughly 2012-2015) I worked on this a bit myself. I found then that nobody seemed much interested. I will email to you a beginning I made then–that is, a beginning on expanding the list from what others had done up to then. Maybe you can make use of it. –Theo Richard
