My father died when I was five. I was raised by a single mom and grandmother and attended elementary and high school in a small town. While in high school I worked summers painting sweatshirts to earn my way to art school. Attended Columbus College of Art and Design in Columbus, Ohio 1966 – 1970. I majored in Illustration and fine art. Attended Woodstock Music and Art Fair in White Plains, NY. Attended Skymont (Bapak’s) Congress in Virginia. Managed to avoid conscription and moved West planning to emigrate to Australia. Spent a year in Cilandak, Jakarta, Indonesia working in an art and photography studio owned by an expat Subud member. Returned to the states, met my wife in New Mexico and married in 1973. We moved to Denver, started a family of five. Started Sinar Graphics with Simon (Renardo) Barden. Began working in the exhibit industry as a designer developing commercial trade show and interpretive (museum) exhibits.
He serves on the SICA-USA Board and participated in POPO for the first time in 2020.
Very cool, Lawrence.
