A Poem to My Granddaughter

A Poem to My Granddaughter
for the Occasion of Her Fifteenth Birthday
By Laura Paterson

You are right over there,
Where the sun rises.
Achingly close.
But I have never seen you.
In distance and in time
There is a wide space
Between us.
That separates us.
But in the soul
That encompasses us all
We are together and we are joined.
We are united.
Forever.

  1. A lovely poem, Laura. I too have a 15-year-old granddaughter: we like to cross-country ski in the winter. I don’t understand the line ” I have never seen you”-you haven’t met her?
