KQAC, also known as All Classical, is broadcasting two of my live concert recordings this month. The first one aired today: Rachmaninoff Sonata in G minor, his last chamber music piece, with my dear friend Janet Guggenheim. It is a tour de force for the piano, of course, since Rachmaninoff was one of the greatest pianists who ever lived, and it was the last half of a concert we did in 2014 called “Russian Romance”. The second broadcast will be on June 20 at 1pm (PDT) and will feature the first piano trio by Beethoven: Op.1 No.1, written when he was in his twenties. The performance was with my trio, the Florestan Trio, which has been together for 44 years. The Beethoven is a fantastic piece, full of high spirits and good humor, and it has a very lyrical and touching slow movement as well. The programs can be heard on allclassical.org, and the program is called “Played in Oregon”. If you would like to hear the Rachmaninoff or listen to the Beethoven after the broadcast, just click on “Audio Archive” on the right side of the screen and then click “Played in Oregon”, the top one in the list of programs. The performances will be archived there for two weeks after the broadcast. The program from today with Rachmaninoff is called “Ernest Bloch on the coast”, and the Rachmaninoff starts at 24’30” into the show. Here is a video of the Finale of the Beethoven Trio performance:
