New York Subud Arts Initiative

From Jeanne Anne Ruskin, Subud NYC:

Last fall, at our general meeting, it was agreed that – with so much talent in our membership – we should make an effort to increase our visibility in the community and inform people about Subud by presenting arts events which will be open to the public (and largely free of charge). And so the New York Subud Arts Initiative came into being. Our first offering was a performance of “The Hidden Sayings”, a theater piece created and presented by The Open Program ensemble, based in Europe, which travels internationally and has some Subud members in their troupe. Later this month, The Open Program returns to again present their work in three performances. We recently received the donation of a baby grand piano, making it possible for the last event to take place.

Last Sunday, April 7th, our new member Leah Hawkins, a young soprano singing with the Metropolitan Opera this season, presented her first New York recital at the Subud Center.

  5. Subud New York, to see this announcement of this arts initiative warmed my heart. As a Subud New Yorker in the early 1960s (along with Reynold Ruslan Feldman – I was Howard and Gaston at the time), the old timers there during that period would applaud you and be grateful for your effort. I hope, too, it is fun for you and gives the group and those participating great satisfaction. Bravi, Subud New York. Abraham Spivak
